England Arrive Friday for ODI Tri-Series as Pakistan Squad Begins Training in Rawalpindi

News Cuff

England’s cricket team will land in Pakistan on Friday morning for the one-day tri-series, the Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed. The touring party runs to 33 people once support staff are counted, built around a 16-player squad led by Harry Brook.

A seven-match series across two cities

Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka will play six league matches between October 18 and 29, with the top two sides meeting again in the final. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium hosts the first three games. The teams then move to Lahore, where Gaddafi Stadium stages the remaining league fixtures and the final on October 31. Pakistan open against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on October 18 and face England at the same ground two days later.

Pakistan’s players check in

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was among seven squad members who reached the team hotel ahead of the series. Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Ali Agha, Haris Rauf, Saad Baig and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori were the others named by the board. Pakistan and Sri Lanka were both due to train at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

England travel without two familiar names. Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been rested and former captain Jos Buttler is out with a hamstring injury picked up last month. In their place come two returns and one recall that has been a long time coming: leg-spinner Adil Rashid and all-rounder Sam Curran are fit again, while Glamorgan leg-spinner Mason Crane is back in an England squad for the first time in eight years.

For all three sides, the series doubles as preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Pakistan go into it having just beaten Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series, though the longer format should test them rather differently.
