Islamabad records seven dengue cases in 2026 as health ministry details 1.29m anti-larval actions

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital recorded seven confirmed dengue cases between June and September 2026, with no deaths, the National Assembly was informed on Thursday.
Federal Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal presented a written reply on behalf of the ministry, saying 214 first information reports had been registered for violations of dengue prevention standard operating procedures. More than 1.29 million anti-larval activities were carried out across the capital to stop mosquito breeding.
According to the reply, Islamabad reported one confirmed case in June, two in July, one in August and three in September. Authorities completed 253 indoor residual spraying operations and 1,075 thermal fogging activities, alongside 577,059 mosquito surveillance exercises and 1,293,165 anti-larval interventions. Officials identified 7,393 dengue-prone locations — 2,935 urban and 4,459 rural — and detected and eliminated larvae at 108,421 spots, including places where water had accumulated and water storage tanks.
The ministry told the House that dedicated beds, medicines and round-the-clock medical care had been arranged for dengue patients in hospitals. Weekly review meetings, surprise inspections of hospitals, public awareness campaigns and dengue prevention sessions in schools were also under way to strengthen disease surveillance and control. A cleanliness campaign was conducted in Islamabad’s Kohsar Block to remove sites where stagnant water had collected.
On HIV and AIDS, the ministry informed the House that the National AIDS Control Programme and the Common Management Unit had reviewed the existing situation and developed a national strategy for HIV prevention and control for 2026-2031.
