Qatar restores free visa on arrival for Pakistanis — but only if four boxes are ticked

There is good news for Pakistanis thinking about a trip to Doha. Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has listed Pakistani citizens once again for a free tourist visa on arrival, good for a stay of up to 30 days — with no need to apply for a visa in advance. The listing, titled “Free Tourist Visa on Arrival for Pakistani, Indian and Thai Nationals for a Maximum of 30 Days”, covers travellers from all three countries.

What are the four conditions?
The facility is not automatic. A visa on arrival will only be issued if all four conditions are met. First, the passport must still be valid for at least three months on arrival. Second, the traveller must hold a confirmed return or onward air ticket. Third comes the hotel booking — and this is where most people trip up: the booking must be made exclusively through Discover Qatar, the country’s official tourism platform. A reservation made through another website, or directly with a hotel, will not be accepted for this category. Fourth, the traveller must hold health insurance from an approved provider.

The hotel booking is the part to get right
One detail is worth knowing before you fly, because it decides how long you can actually stay: the permitted stay is tied to the hotel itinerary. If the confirmed booking covers fewer nights, the stay allowed may be shorter than 30 days. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published additional instructions alongside the listing — health insurance for at least one month, at a basic cost of 50 Qatari riyals (about Rs3,800), with Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) and QLM Life and Medical Insurance Company named as recommended providers. On landing at Hamad International Airport in Doha, travellers go first to the Discover Qatar desk, which sits before the immigration counters, where staff verify the hotel reservation and documents.

A restoration after March’s suspension
The restoration matters because the picture looked very different earlier this year. On 30 March 2026, Pakistan’s embassy in Doha advised that the visa-on-arrival facility for Pakistanis was temporarily unavailable, and travellers were told to get a visa before departure, with the Hayya platform as an alternative route. Pakistan’s name appearing again on the ministry’s list is a clear change from that position. One caution still stands, though: entry conditions have shifted several times this year, so it is worth confirming the latest rules with Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, Discover Qatar, your airline or the Pakistan embassy in Doha before booking anything. And remember what this visa is — a tourist visa, not permission to work.
