Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani welcome baby boy, name him Syed Azmar Hussain Kamal Gilani

There is happy news from one of Pakistan’s best-loved showbiz couples. Actors Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani have become parents to a baby boy, whom they have named Syed Azmar Hussain Kamal Gilani. The couple shared the announcement on Instagram on Friday, and asked their fans to keep the newborn in their prayers.

Ameer Gilani posted a video of himself reciting the Azaan into his newborn son’s ears — the Islamic tradition of letting a child hear the name of God first. “Our son ‘Azmar’ — it means lion,” he wrote in the caption, alongside the Quranic verse: “And your Lord will surely give you, and you will be content.” He called the baby “the king of our jungle, our pride, our littlest most precious treasure.”

A quiet request for prayers

Mawra Hocane shared the news on her own Instagram story, writing that their “little secret … is yours” now, and asking followers for extra prayers and love. The announcement was met with a flood of congratulations online, as fans and fellow celebrities sent their best wishes to the new parents. Many praised the couple’s refreshingly simple approach — no pregnancy announcement, no gender reveal, just the baby himself.

A secret kept until the very end

What makes the news sweeter is that the couple had kept the pregnancy entirely private. Fans had speculated after noticing what looked like a baby bump during one of Mawra’s drama appearances, but the couple said nothing at the time. The direct announcement of the birth — no build-up, no teaser — caught everyone by surprise, and delighted them just as much.

Mawra and Ameer first worked together in the drama Sabaat (2020), and their pairing in Neem (2023) won them a loyal fanbase.
