Pakistani Resident Killed in Fresh Attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, 11 Wounded as Airport Closure Is Extended

RIYADH: A fresh attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Sunday killed a Pakistani resident and wounded 11 other people. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said the wounded were taken to several hospitals for treatment, while the damage caused to airport property was still being assessed.
Projectile hits Terminal 4, fire breaks out
According to the Saudi-led coalition, a projectile struck the airport’s Terminal 4 and caused a fire. The coalition said a cruise missile was also intercepted near the airport, while a drone over the Eastern Province and a ballistic missile launched towards Khamis Mushait were intercepted as well. Another attack was also reported at Dammam airport in the east of the country.
A day after the strike that killed 13
The latest attack came a day after a major strike claimed by Yemen’s Houthis killed 13 people and wounded more than 300, in the deadliest attack on Saudi soil in more than a decade. The Houthis claimed multiple attacks over the past 24 hours and threatened to keep targeting the kingdom’s transit hubs.
Airport closure extended
Following the attacks, the airport’s closure was extended by a further 24 hours, until Monday night, adding to the disruption to flights. Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said the kingdom’s response to the recent attacks must be equally serious, while Pakistan and several other countries have condemned the strikes on Saudi airports.
