Pakistani Umrah pilgrim and his two sons killed in Saudi road accident on journey from Makkah to Madinah

News Cuff

The news reached Iqbal Nagar in Arifwala on Tuesday, and the neighbourhood has been in mourning since.

Chaudhry Wahid Ali had travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah with his two sons, Umar Wahid and Ali Wahid. The three were driving from Makkah to Madinah, on their way to visit the Prophet’s Mosque, when their car was involved in an accident. All three died at the scene.

What is not yet known

Neither the exact place of the crash nor its cause had been established in the first reports. That detail may come later from Saudi authorities. What the family knows for now is the loss itself, and arrangements have begun to bring the three bodies back to Pakistan for burial. No timeline for the repatriation has been announced.

A town waiting for three coffins

Relatives and neighbours have been gathering at the family’s home through the day. Losing a father and two sons in a single accident, thousands of miles from home, in the middle of a journey of faith — residents say the grief in the area is hard to put into words.

Millions of pilgrims travel the long highway between Makkah and Madinah every year. This accident is a grim reminder of how unforgiving that road can be, and the family has asked for prayers for the departed.
