Babusar Top Reopens After Three Days of Snowfall as NHA Clears the Pass and Restores Traffic From Both Sides

MANSEHRA: After three days shut in by snow, Babusar Top is open again. News of the Babusar Top reopening brought relief on both sides of the pass, as the National Highway Authority (NHA) cleared the accumulated snow and traffic began moving between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan once more. Tankers and trucks that had been stranded by the closure were among the first vehicles to get moving.
Open until 4pm — then the pass closes again
Police say the road stays open to all traffic only until 4pm each day. After that, severe cold, fog and slippery patches make the crossing too risky, and the pass shuts until the next morning. At roughly 13,700 feet, Babusar Top links the Kaghan Valley with Chilas and Gilgit-Baltistan and offers the shorter route toward the Karakoram Highway — which is why even a short closure strands tourists and cuts off local communities at the same time.
Fresh snow overnight, and a word of caution
Light fresh snowfall was reported at the top overnight, and travellers are being advised to check the weather and road conditions before setting out and to cross well before the 4pm deadline. For the hotels, jeep operators and small businesses of Naran and the Kaghan Valley, the reopening matters just as much: this single road carries the valley’s tourist season, and every closed day is a day of empty rooms.
