KP Orders Safety Inspection of Every Government School After Peshawar Roof Collapse, Reports Due October 26

A day after a classroom roof came down on children in Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered the buildings of every government school in the province to be checked. In a letter issued on October 15, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department told the Communication and Works Department to put together technical teams in each district and work through the schools with the district education officers. District-wise reports are due by noon on October 26.
What the teams will look at
The inspection is a structural one. Roofs, ceilings, walls, beams, foundations and staircases are all on the checklist, and each building will be placed in one of three classes: safe, in need of repair, or potentially unsafe and requiring urgent assessment. The teams will also recommend repairs and strengthening work, say which jobs come first, and issue a safety clearance certificate or no-objection certificate for every school they clear.
No waiting where a building is dangerous
The order is explicit on one point: nobody waits for the survey to finish if a building looks like an immediate threat. Such buildings are to be reported to the district authorities at once, with access restricted or use suspended where needed. Separately, a three-member fact-finding committee is looking into the collapse at Al-Khair Education System in Dir Colony itself — what failed, who was negligent, and what has to change so it does not happen again.
