DERA MURAD JAMALI: Power supply from the Uch Power Plant to several cities in Sindh and Punjab was disrupted on Saturday after unidentified men blew up a 220kV high-voltage transmission pylon in Balochistan’s Nasirabad district.
Nasirabad Senior Superintendent of Police Asad Khan Nasar said an improvised explosive device had been planted under the pylon in the Goth Mughal Khan Bugti area, near Dera Murad Jamali, in the early hours of Saturday. The blast destroyed the pylon outright, cutting the line that feeds the affected districts.
The cities left without power
The disruption hit Shikarpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Guddu, as well as parts of Dera Murad Jamali itself — all areas served from the Uch plant through this transmission route.
Police and security forces moved quickly to secure the site, collect evidence and launch a search operation for those behind the attack. The bomb disposal squad cleared the area afterwards, and officials said repairs to the destroyed pylon would begin once the relevant authorities grant security clearance.
No claim of responsibility yet
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. Transmission lines in Balochistan have been targeted before, and Saturday’s attack will inevitably be read in that wider context — power infrastructure in the province has repeatedly been caught in the middle of its security troubles.
Officials have not yet said when supply to the affected cities will be fully restored. That depends on the security clearance coming through and on how quickly the damaged pylon can be repaired — and until then, households and businesses across the two provinces are left waiting on a line that was blown apart before dawn.
