HONG KONG: Pakistan have beaten Oman by 18 runs to win the Plate title at the Hong Kong Sixes 2026. In the final at Mission Road Ground, Mong Kok, Pakistan batted first and posted 154 runs in their six overs, and Oman could only reach 136 in reply.
Afridi’s 73 off 16 balls
The final, really, was one innings: captain Abbas Afridi’s. He smashed 73 off just 16 balls, with one four and 11 sixes, retiring along the way and returning to the crease for the final over. Abdul Samad added 26 off five balls, Ahmed Daniyal 25 off five and Muhammad Shahzad 13 off four, dragging the total to 154. Khawaja Nafay managed only seven and Irfan Niazi fell first ball, but on this day Pakistan could afford that.
Oman’s reply had plenty of fire of its own. Usman Ali struck 67 off 17 balls and Zohaib Amanat 61 off 18, eight sixes apiece. But captain Aamir Kaleem was run out for a duck, and in trying to keep their big hitters at the crease Oman had to retire three batters out. The 18-run gap never closed.
Hosts beaten in the semi-final
A day earlier, in the semi-final, Pakistan had done the same to the hosts. Hong Kong posted 106, and Pakistan chased it down without losing a wicket in just 4.3 overs. Afridi was unbeaten on 55 off 13 balls that day too, with seven sixes, while Nafay finished 34 not out.
Out of the main race, but not empty-handed
It is worth remembering how Pakistan arrived here: as defending champions, six-time winners of this event. A last-ball defeat to the United Arab Emirates in the group stage, despite posting 106, proved costly. Even beating India was not enough — once the UAE beat India as well, Pakistan finished second in the group and out of the main Cup race. The Plate is no substitute for that title, but it means Pakistan leave Hong Kong in fifth place with a trophy in hand — and Afridi’s sixes over these two days will be remembered there for a while.
