Petrol cut by Rs2.71 to Rs392.66 a litre for October 14, diesel cheaper by just 3 paisas

Motorists got a small break on Wednesday. The Petroleum Division notified new rates late on Tuesday, and pumps across the country started charging them from October 14.
Petrol now sells at Rs392.66 a litre, down Rs2.71 from Rs395.37. High-speed diesel barely moved. It came down by 3 paisas, to Rs396.82 from Rs396.85 a litre — a change most transporters will not even feel at the pump.
Why petrol fell and diesel did not
OGRA linked the revision to movement in international markets over the past seven days. Refined petrol prices eased over the week, while diesel held steady. That gap showed up in import costs too. Petrol’s import cost dropped to Rs281.88 a litre from Rs284.59. Diesel’s stayed put at Rs289.29, which is why its retail price was left almost untouched.
Levies left alone
There was no change in taxes or margins this time. Both fuels still carry a petroleum levy of Rs80 a litre and a climate support levy of Rs5. Dealer margins remain Rs9.98 a litre and oil marketing companies keep Rs7.87.
Pakistan has been setting fuel prices daily since July 17, replacing the old fortnightly system. Only a day earlier, on October 13, petrol had fallen by Rs2.93 while diesel rose by 61 paisas. With prices now changing almost every morning, households and transporters are watching the month’s overall trend more than any single day’s cut.
