Security forces shoot down five drones, foil attack on Kharan checkpost

Security forces in Balochistan’s Kharan district have foiled an attempt to attack a checkpost with drones, shooting down all five before they could reach their target. According to security sources, the drones were aimed at a checkpost in the Albat area of Kharan, but troops responded promptly and destroyed them in the air. No one was killed or injured, and no property was damaged.

Sources attributed the attempt to Fitna al-Hindustan, a group Pakistan describes as an Indian proxy. 24News reported that the attack used low-grade FPV drones — small craft flown using a live camera feed. Security sources said the drones were brought down before they got anywhere near the checkpost, heading off whatever damage the attackers had planned.

A changing shape of attack

Kharan is not an isolated case. Last month, Pakistan shot down eight drones after they entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan, a precedent Geo News recalled in its report on Friday. Security officials say cross-border militancy has risen sharply in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2021, and cheap, small drones are becoming a new face of that threat. The Kharan attempt fits that pattern: a remote checkpost, targeted from the air, by weapons that cost little and are hard to spot until they are close.

The wider campaign

Geo’s report also recalled that Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February 2026, months after a ceasefire agreed in October 2025 following clashes along several border points. Security sources say counter-terrorism operations will continue at full pace, with wiping out foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country as the stated goal. In Kharan, at least, the immediate result was straightforward: five drones destroyed, a checkpost untouched, and an attack stopped before it began.
