ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned Houthi ballistic missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s Makkah and Madinah regions, including areas near Islam’s holiest sites.
**A grave violation, says the Foreign Office**
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said the attacks, carried out on October 24, constituted a grave violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said they demonstrated a blatant disregard for the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites and the safety of civilians.
**Solidarity with Riyadh, commitment to the Makkah Alliance**
“Pakistan reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its firm commitment to the Makkah Alliance,” the spokesperson said. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s steadfast support for the kingdom’s security, stability and defence, including the protection of the Two Holy Mosques against any external aggression or threat. He also commended the vigilance and efficiency of Saudi air defence forces in countering the attacks.
**What happened on October 24**
According to reports, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis intercepted two ballistic missiles fired towards Taif and Yanbu on October 24. Saudi Civil Defence briefly issued alerts warning residents of potential danger in Taif, Yanbu, Makkah and Jeddah; about ten minutes later, the agency said the threat had passed.
**Not the first such condemnation**
This is not the first time Islamabad has spoken out. In September, the Foreign Office condemned a Houthi attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Madinah, which supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque, calling it a grave provocation against civilian infrastructure.
The statement also sits in a wider frame: under the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025, an armed attack on either country is treated as an attack on both. Monday’s condemnation is the latest expression of that partnership.
