KP Dengue Cases Jump by 99 in a Single Day, the Highest Daily Count of 2026, as the Provincial Total Reaches 4,091

News Cuff

PESHAWAR: KP dengue cases have taken their sharpest single-day jump of the year. The province’s Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System recorded 99 new infections in 24 hours — the highest daily tally of 2026 — lifting the provincial total to 4,091. Of those, 144 patients are currently ill and 3,946 have recovered. One death has been reported: a patient from Tank who died in Dera Ismail Khan.

Kohat carries the heaviest load

No district comes close to Kohat, which accounts for 2,567 of the province’s cases. Peshawar follows with 566, then Bannu with 192, Khyber with 120 and Haripur with 112; Charsadda, Abbottabad, Nowshera and Karak have all reported cases in the dozens. Kohat alone has recorded 80 cases since the start of October, and the steady flow of patients is putting real pressure on its hospitals.

Better than last year, but the coordination is missing

Health experts say the overall picture is still better than last year, when the province counted more than 6,000 cases, over a thousand of them in Charsadda. What worries them is how the response is split. Testing, diagnosis and treatment sit with the health department; spraying, draining stagnant water and keeping the electricity running sit with other departments — and in the districts where cases are now rising, those arms of government have not been moving together. The health department asked the administrations in Kohat, Mansehra and Haripur weeks ago to level the ground and fill the ditches where rainwater collects and mosquitoes breed. With breeding conditions still favourable, experts warn the coming weeks remain critical.
